It was just last week that the Council of Fashion Designers of America and its president, Diane Von Furstenberg, sent a letter to designers advising them on hiring practices for New York's Fashion Week, which kicks off tomorrow, in their effort to curb the rampant use of too-young models walking the runway. The CFDA had already set the minimum age limit at 16, and last week's letter recommended that all models produce valid I.D.s to prove their age. But there's at least one runway strutter that won't be complying with the new rules: reality-TV spawn Kylie Jenner (the youngest of the Kardashian clan).
At just 14, the high school freshman and aspiring model will be making her runway debut September 12 for Abbey Dawn, the Hot Topic-esque line designed by Avril Lavigne, which, granted, features clothes aimed at girls Jenner's age. But still, rules are rules. Or they should be, especially when it comes to protecting young women -- an issue that the CFDA has been pushing under its Health Initiative, a blueprint for maintaining model health that, among other things, includes educating the industry on eating disorders. But then again Lavigne also happens to be dating Jenner's half-brother Brody Jenner, which, like most cases of nepotism, makes this a big fail all around.
