Young Lolita:
In May of 1991, when Amy was only 16, she took her car to a mechanic, Joey Buttafuoco, to be repaired.
Amy and Joey (then 35 years old and married) began meeting in motel rooms and quickly launched a secret sexual affair.
Claim to Fame:
In 1992, Amy Fisher was convicted in the non-fatal shooting of Joey's wife, Mary-Jo Buttafuoco, in the head. She was charged with attempted murder.
Jail Time :
For her crime of passion, Amy was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison. She served seven long years behind bars and was released in 1999.
New Look and Life:
To avoid public scrutiny, Amy opted for
plastic surgery to alter her face. Under the circumstances, she wanted to lead as normal a life as possible. Amy later married and had two children, Brett and Ava Rose.
Amy the Author:
In 2004, Amy wrote a book titled "If I Knew Then", where she spoke candidly about her experiences in the 90's and what she came to learn from them.
Awards and Recognitions:
Around the time that her book came out, Amy was granted a media award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
